Tutor Salaries and Rates
The following is a guideline of suggested tutor salaries and rates for families who require a tutor. High caliber tutors are considered to be candidates who have at least a minimum of 1 year formal tutoring or teaching experience (friends and family do not count), or who are studying at tertiary level (i.e. university) in the respective subject that requires tutoring.
Tutor Salaries and Rates:
A tutor generally earns between R180 and R200 per hour, however the more hours you do for a family the lower the rate. If you work an average of 2 hours per day, 4 days per week you can look at earning between R3500 and R4500 per month.
Petrol reimbursement is NOT required for tutoring positions.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
- Tutors committ for fixed-term contracts of 3 to 6 months!
- Tutors can generally only start tutoring from 15:00 or 16:00
- Tutors are generally between the ages of 20 and 24
- Tutors ONLY do tutoring – they do NOT do other duties such as transporting kids around, lunchboxes etc.
- The tutor will come to your home to tutor your child
- The tutor can tutor one child at a time successfully – so if you have more than 1 child they need separate tutoring times
