Au Pair Salaries You Can Expect to Earn…

The following is a guideline of suggested au pair salaries for candidates – Au Pairs and Tutors. High caliber au pairs are considered to be candidates who have at least a minimum of 1 year formal childcare experience (friends and family do not count), have completed various childcare related courses, diplomas or degrees and who are first aid qualified.

Au Pairs and Tutors:
Mornings
4 Hours – R4000 per month
5 Hours – R5000 per month
6 Hours – R6000 per month

Afternoons
3 Hours or Less – R4500 to R5000 per month
4 Hours – R5000 to R6000 per month
5 Hours – R6000 to R8000 per month
6 Hours – R8000 to R9000 per month

Full Day
7 Hours – R9000 to R10 000 per month
8 to 10 Hours – Starting from R10 000 per month to R13 000 per month
11+ Hours – Starting from R11 000 per month to R15 000 per month

  • Petrol reimbursement of R3.25 per km travelled would be in addition to the salary (not to and from work).
  • If the family are providing a vehicle for the candidate to use during working hours then the family would not have to reimburse the candidate the R3.25 per km indicated above.

In General

  • Regarding overtime, this is not payable in the event that employees earn in excess of R17 000 gross per month.
  • PAYE is only deductible in the event that the employee earns R6000 gross or more per month.
  • UIF is always deductible.
  • Salaries are payable directly from the Employer to the Employee. Little Sunshines is not a labour brokerage
