Au Pair Traning Advert

Au Pair Petrol
If the au pair is required to transport the children around during working hours, in her own car, then a petrol reimbursement of R3.25 per km travelled would be required to be paid in addition to the monthly salary.

If the family are providing a vehicle for the au pair to use during working hours then a petrol reimbursement is not applicable.

Please note that in terms of the petrol reimbursement, many families do not pay AA rates. This is generally not really applicable because AA rates include wear and tear for a vehicle which is being used for business purposes, ALL day, every day, driving excessive kilometres – think sales reps etc.

An Au Pair does general driving between school, extra murals and play dates which is not excessive wear and tear for a vehicle. Therefore the petrol reimbursement of R3.25 per km travelled is sufficient for an au pair to be adequately reimbursed.

In terms of tutors, home school positions etc. where the employee does not drive around for the family, no petrol reimbursement is required.

Remember: Petrol is NOT reimbursed for the distance travelled from your home to work (i.e. the first point where you start work) and from work back home. You are responsible to get yourself to work and home from work.
